Townsend Leather’s new Abstract Art Series showcasing the Eastern Lattice and Striations cowhide was shown in the May 2013 edition of Interior Design Magazine.

The 2013 annual Fulton Montgomery New York Livability Magazine featured a mention of Townsend Leather and upstate New York manufacturing.

The “We’ve Got It Made” article said:

Local Manufacturers produce wide variety of Quality goods

FOLLOWING TRADITION

Leather-making shares in the economic tradition here, as there were more than 300 leather companies in Johnstown and Gloversville in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  About a dozen leather companies operate here today, notably Townsend Leather, which makes upholstery leather for aircraft, yachts and automobiles…

The local Chamber of Commerce was proud to mention Townsend, and Townsend is equally proud to be shown as an example of quality manufacturing going strong in upstate New York.

Townsend Leather’s sister company, The Leather Institute – the experts in leather care, cleaning, maintenance and services – just spread its expertise even further across the globe.

The Leather Institute has a long list of expertly trained affiliates, who deeply understand the ins and outs of The Leather Institute’s proprietary processes that preserve the beauty and prolong the service life of leather.  They now have added one more to that list, the leading business jet operator in Asia, MetroJet, based in Hong Kong.

MetroJet announced the partnership on their website yesterday, see the Leather Institute MetroJet Press Release here

We get a lot of request for custom leather, color matched leather, and even personality matched leather and we are always delighted to fulfill those requests.

Recently we were given a couple inch rectangle of fabric and asked to match the blues and golds from the piece.

The craftsmen at Townsend were excited for the challenge.

Using our state-of-the-art color matching technology, paired with our experts keen eyes we were able to determine the specific color attributes of each desired color.

The customer was looking for leather to match 2 of the blues, the dark stripe in the center, and the gold tone of their fabric.  Thy had a particular embossing pattern in mind, but still wanted to leather to have a feeling that was similar to the stitching of the fabric.

So after the color matching process was complete, the look effects were created.

Each piece is hand rubbed to get the shading just right, to build the layers of color, and to apply the streaking/line effect.

After passing through so many expert hands and by so many expert minds, Townsend was able to provide a stunning set of leathers.

With a focus on the future, Townsend Leather supported the local community in a county-wide Career Apprenticeship Day.

Working closely with the local community college and many of the local schools, Townsend setup a booth to converse with and educate students.

Tim Beckett, SVP, and Ben Towne, Human Resources Generalist, of Townsend Leather were excited to help the students understand the high level of work they can engage with locally and enjoyed getting them excited about putting their future knowledge to use in an interesting field.

Townsend’s booth proved to be so popular among the young students that the photographer was unable to get through the crowds to get more photos.
