On May 18th, 2022 a group of Townsend Leather Partners participated in, and had a great time, in the well-known CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge in Downtown Albany, NY. After a couple years of not being able to participate due to COVID-19, our team loved being able to get back into the run-fun!
This event is the largest running event in the Capital District of New York, and is organized by, and serves as the major fundraiser for, the Hudson-Mowhawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC). The proceeds help underwrite many of HMRRC’s activities and offerings, including college scholarships, grants, free races for members, and the Just Run® Program, which encourages grade school children to run for exercise and fun.
At this year’s event, over 6,000 registered participants donated over $10,000 to this year’s Charity of Choice, Oakwood Community
Center. Oakwood Community Center (OCC) offers a welcoming and nurturing space for the diverse residents of Troy to meet as strangers and become neighbors who care and advocate for each other.
We again, participated in the T-Shirt Contest, where businesses/teams submit a custom t-shirt design of their own, then it is judged the night before the race. Townsend won 3rd place for the Most Corporate!
Townsend Leather’s team members joined together to create tie-dye socks and bandanas to go along with their custom-designed shirts, as well.
All together this was one amazing event – Townsend Partners worked together making their team apparel, had lots of fun, great exercise in beautiful surroundings, and took home 3rd place in the T-shirt Contest. You can’t ask for anything more.

This year we continued and increased our support of the HRC and their valiant mission.

‘Equality for all‘ is an idea we can fully and strongly stand behind. It is an idea we try hard to express out to our community. Sometimes the impact you have on others stays invisible, but sometimes you get lucky and you meet someone who is brave and willing to be vulnerable. Sometimes you meet someone like Sabrina, who volunteers to share the story of her first days at Townsend, what it meant to her, and what it continues to be for her.
Sabrina joined Townsend Leather in March and quickly become a Partner associated with greatness. Sabrina has impressed everyone with focused dedication to work, speed, and a fun-to-be-around attitude. Sabrina is a person who brings people together and we are so glad she is part of the team.
“When I first came to Townsend, I was really scared. I heard great things about the place, but I didn’t know if they were true or if I was even going to be liked for who I was.
But, I was happily surprised that Townsend truly was such a loving and caring environment.
On my first day, I was really slow and kept apologizing to my trainer, but she kept brushing my apologies aside and encouraging me, telling me that I was doing great. That day I even met the president of the company, Jared, and he was also so lovely, nice, and encouraging. It was such a relief to know that the people were really like a family.
It was because of this warm, family kindness that I finally opened up to people about being pansexual. I always hid it before, because I was afraid of being judged and hated for it, but the people at Townsend welcomed me and I even met other people who were gay/bisexual. It was so nice.
I started learning more about the LGBTQ+ community and accepting who I was. I learned it was okay to like men, women, non-binary people, transgender people, etc; and I learned, I am really, really glad I came to work here.”
And so are all of us.

Townsend has long been a force of love and connection, as seen in our work, our people and on our shirts, billboards, and banners emblazoned with our All Are Welcome symbol and the philosophy behind that symbol being a cornerstone-value of how we work. And as expressed on International Women’s Day, “We take the challenges of pushing the boundaries of leather, production, and culture seriously. We are heartfelt intent on balance, growth, and innovation for all, especially those that face marginalization and unfair barriers“. Therefore, we feel a sense of reverence and respect at sharing our anniversary-year with such a powerfully important movement.
The Stonewall Riots happened 50 years ago in nearby-to-Townsend, New York City, and out of the strength, bravery, and action of those that stood up – grew the necessary and powerful annual LGBTQ+ focused Pride Month.
This month, especially, we honor those groundbreakers and pioneers who came before to get us where we are today, as a more united group of humans. There is still work to do.
We look to the bright future and those who will do incredible things, and look forward to ways we can support and grow rights for all humans.
While we celebrate 50 historical years along with millions of others for various reasons, we also put emphasis on stitching together our past with our future. Our focus on the future gives us motivation to narrow in on youth and the challenges young LGBT face. Sarah oversees all aspects of sales and marketing at Townsend Leather, working closely with the internal and external sales and customer service teams, the sample department, and marketing and graphic design teams… all while helping to bring Townsend’s leather-producing capabilities and expansive product line to the design-world through trade shows, our website, social media, promotional materials… Townsend’s world-renowned leather is used for end-applications that include aviation interiors, hotels, casinos, yachts, cruise ships and even private residences.
Sarah is known far and wide as the heart of Townsend Leather.
In the time since her 40 Under 40 award she has only deepened her love of supporting people in every way, while simultaneously growing Townsend’s reach to a worldwide brand.

Do you have questions about using Townsend Leather’s new and improved Sample Store? We have answers! We aim to delight our customers in every way, through leather, your final design and the entire process to get there. So we have released a new even easier way for you to select leather and request samples from us. But with anything new, there are often questions – if you have any, check the list below or email us at web@townsendleather.com with any website questions or ideas.
Sort by Color! New Sample Store
Q – I am filling out a New Customer Registration form, but nothing happens when I click Submit Registration, what’s going on?
A – It is likely that a field is incomplete, scroll through the page and look for any highlighted areas, red asterisks, or other notices – complete and try again. If you are still having issues contact our web team at web@townsendleather.com
Q – I registered, but never got an email confirmation, where is it?
A – Check your junk mail or spam folders. Sometimes these confirmation emails get pushed the wrong way by email services.
Q – I registered but I still cannot order samples, what’s going on?
A – Your information is in our system, it just needs to be processed and go through the approval measure. As soon as that happens you will be able to order samples. Contact us at info@townsendleather.com and let us know when you submitted your registration and we can work to make the approval happen as quickly as possible.
Q – Something weird happened with my Lightbox, what’s going on?
A – Contact us at web@townsendleather.com and let us know what is going on. Every website has hiccups and little weirdnesses, it might be a server issue, it might be a browser issue, it might be something we’ve never seen before, whatever it is – we will work to figure it out and make sure you get the leather you need.
Q – I don’t want to make a new account.
A – Even though that isn’t a question, we still have an answer for you. We want customers to have control over what they want and when they want to search for it. We have worked hard to make our website easy to use and full of everything you might want. And to make our order system work as effectively as possible, it is best for every customer to have a Sample Store account. But, if setting up an account is something you can’t or won’t do, we can set it up for you. Just email us at web@townsendleather.com and we can get the form set up for you.
Q – I’ve changed companies, can I keep my same Townsend account?
A – Your Townsend account is personalized to you. Your email address and password are only known to you. You can log in at any time and change your personal information in your profile. So if you change companies, or email address, or location, just update your profile information and change to your new email address to keep using your account. Your saved Lightboxes will stay with you.
Q – What is a Lightbox?
A – A Lightbox is like a digital design board or a digital shopping cart. You can use a Lightbox to select all the leathers you want to see together and then print off a pdf to use on your physical design board or share with a colleague for input. Or you can use your Lightbox to order physical samples of those leathers.
You can have an infinite number of light boxes all tailored however you want. So you can make a Lightbox of your favorite, a Lightbox of just blues, a Lightbox of leathers that are perfect for that new luxury chair project, or a Lightbox of just a single item.
Q – I want more than one sample of this leather, but I can only add one at a time. How can I get more?
A – Use the Special Instructions section of the Order Lightbox form. This is an area to tell us all your sample request needs. Let us know if you need multiple pieces of a particular swatch (and how many), let us know if you need larger sizes of something, let us know any special requests for your samples and we will do everything we can to meet those requests.
Q – Is this site secure?
A – Absolutely! Our site is cookie compliant, secure, safe, and protected. Also, there is no payment information connected to your Townsend Leather Sample Store account, our samples are provided for free. So you can rest easy knowing the little information that is stored with this account is safe and secure.
Q – I am looking for a leather that is not on your site, where can I find it?
A – We have samples of our standard production. But we are the manufacturer and can customize for any leather dream. If you are looking for something specific, let us know at info@townsendleather.com. You can just give us a description, you can take a picture of something you have or have seen, or you can send us a physical sample to match. However you want to share your dream – we can make it come true.
Q – This part of your site looks wrong or weird or something I didn’t understand happened here, what’s going on?
A – If you see anything confusing on our site or have any concerns or questions at all, contact us at web@townsendleather.com and we will figure it out with you.
Q – There is so much fantastic leather to look at on here, where should I start?

What does it mean to be a Great Place To Work?
Maybe to figure that out we should ask ourselves what it isn’t. Being a great place to work doesn’t mean that every day is easy. To make the world’s best anything is impressive, to be part of a team that makes something that is unique, purposeful, beautiful, and hand-crafted, while being the best in the world – that is something astounding.
As we recover from and enjoy holiday celebrations and year-end hullabaloos, we would like to invite you to take a couple minutes, grab a friend, and watch this too-fast, photo-pile, mess-video of an incredible year at Townsend Leather. It is a compilation of a full year’s worth of photos of Townsend Leather Partners doing amazing things together.
It is impossible to truly represent the year we had together, the ups and downs, the overs and unders, the creations and tests… and this video just blurs it all together. But, you can let it just kind of wash over you, just let your eyes pick out all the smiles, the thumbs-ups, the colors, the hugs, the good times, the tiny sparks of memories that will pop up and you’ll find yourselves saying “I forgot about that!” or “I didn’t think that was this year!”, just bathe in it as it blurs by and enjoy the joy it will bring you as you recall and witness a year of changes and growth and newness and togetherness.
